I completed dry January for the first time in my life in 2022, but as I’m a very moderate drinker it wasn’t difficult for me. But there’s actually been a 31% increase in sales of non-alcoholic beer and bars like Darkside based in the Rosewood hotel Hong Kong ( 49th best bar in 2021 )regularly uses ingredients like coconut water, Sichuan peppercorns and kombucha rather than alcohol substitutes in it’s nonalcoholic cocktails!
So that’s definitely a move to the healthier side of drinking!

Obviously covid has made people want to drink more “healthily” while they socialize so is this alcohol free sometimes a phenomenon for now or a trend that’s here to stay? Have you switched a little of what and how you drink? What do you drink when you’re not drinking and why is it called “not drinking” in the first place?!
Things that really helped me stick to my alcohol free resolution were having good alternatives to drink that weren’t sweet tasting or artificial in any way.
ALTERNATIVES to alcohol that aren’t made from sweet, artificial ingredients are a must if you’re abstaining from alcohol. I really liked the Belgian Biere des Amis. It looks like beer, smells like beer and to me tastes’s pretty similar too.
I also liked the Sea Arch cocktails in a can again because they weren’t sweet or artificial tasting. I didn’t even have to add soda to dilute down the taste.
DON’T TRY AN ALCOHOL FREE MONTH DURING FESTIVE TIMES It’s too tempting and you’ll feel frustrated because there are so many more opportunities to drink during this time at social gatherings with people you don’t always see.
TELL YOUR MATES IN ADVANCE so they don’t pressure you to drink alcohol and have some good alternatives to hand to take with you to a party. Don’t necessarily rely on there being something you like where you’re going.
USE A PRINTED OUT CALENDER ON YOUR FRIDGE to tick off the days you’ve gone alcohol free. Sounds a bit silly but give yourself an extra star if you abstained on a “party” or very social evening.
